There are a few ways to get the Hedgehoglet minion in Final Fantasy XIV. The easiest way is to find it in the game and kill it. The second easiest way is to find it and talk to the creature’s creator, who will give you a quest to get it. The third easiest way is to find it and buy it from the merchant.
The Lost Canals of Uznair The Hidden Canals of Uznair The Shifting Altars of Uznair
Each of these Instances are part of the Treasure Hunt feature in FFXIV. This requires you to gather maps and decipher them, unearthing them and claiming their rewards.
Accessing Uznair with Maps
Introduced in Patch 4.1 and 4.4 of Stormblood, the Lost Canals and Shifting Altars of Uznair are only available from Gazelleskin Treasure Maps. These Maps can be gathered by any Level 70 Disciple of the Land at a Node of equal Level.
Once you’ve gathered your Map and used it from your Inventory, you’ll be given a clue as to its location. Scour the Zone for distinguishing marks and then use the /dig emote to hopefully uncover your treasure!
Once you’ve dispatched the foes that spawn along with your Treasure, simply open the Coffer. It’ll have a chance of spawning a Portal leading to either the Canals or Shifting Altars of Uznair.
It’s important to note that while the enemies outside can be dispatched easily and unsynced, that isn’t the case inside.
Each duty will reduce you back to Level 70, and also sync your Item Level to 370. The good news is that you can bring seven other players with you to make the challenges you’ll face a breeze.
It’s also recommended to at least have a Light Party with a Tank and Healer in case things get spicy.
The duties themselves do progress a bit differently, however. The Canals are a series of Seven Rooms, with the final room containing a boss.
Each chamber will spawn three groups of enemies for you to tackle. This is in addition to special mechanics like The Keeper of The Keys, who can quickly demolish your Party if you’re not careful.
Note: You’ll always have to choose either left or right after clearing a room. Hopefully the gate you choose leads you deeper into the Canals. This is because the further you get, the better your odds of receiving that elusive Hedgehoglet Minion!
The Shifting Altars of Uznair
The Shifting Altars work quite differently.
There are only five waves of enemies, and after defeating each you’ll be rewarded with one coffer. After opening and claiming your Treasure, you’ll spin the roulette.
There are six possible outcomes:
Diamond – performs a lesser summon. Double Diamond – performs a greater summon. Triple Diamond – performs an elder summon. Atomos – expels you from the Shifting Altars. Exclamation Point – has varied effects but changes the tiles on the roulette, usually in a favorable way. Matanga Prince – functions as a free floor, allowing you to skip a fight but claim the rewards.
As with the Canals, the further you get the better the contents of your Treasure Coffer.
The Hidden Canals of Uznair are the final Duty, and you’ll often find your minion inside. It functions like the Lost Canals, except it has three gates instead of two.
This means your odds of reaching the next room drastically go down, but the rewards are that much better.
The Hidden Canals, however, aren’t accessed by deciphering Gazelleskin Maps. They’re only found by getting a Timeworn Thief’s Map which, you guessed it, can only be found inside Gazelleskin Maps and Uznair.
But here’s some more good news:
These Timeworn Thief’s Maps always spawn a Portal. So even if they’re rare, they guarantee you a shot at entering the Hidden Canals.
And that’s one more shot at that Hedgehoglet Minion, among others!
